6 Tips to Protect Your Furniture From Your Kids

If you have high end furniture and kids, some of your friends may say that you are going to need all the help you can get! Yes, it could be a problem, but with a little bit of care, it doesn’t have to be. Just because you have young kids, it doesn’t mean you have to give up some of the nicer, quality things. It doesn’t mean you have to stop enjoying these things.

Accidents can happen and they always end up happening in a place that will have you almost in tears, but, with a little extra care, you can help protect your high end furniture, so here are some useful tips on how to do this.

1. Add On Services

Some people don’t want to pay a little more for these add on services, but if you have young children, it is a good idea to do so. Many high end furniture suppliers will offer this to you and one of the things offered is leather protection. Go for it!

This will give you a special coating that will make the quality of leather stronger, more resilient and durable. It can also help to prevent rips and tears. The coating will also help prevent the leather from wearing prematurely. You can use this protection every couple of months, however, if you have a few children, it would be better to apply it frequently.

2. Invest In A Good Cleaner

You probably know that taking care of leather furniture is different from fabric furniture. Different types of furniture will need different ways of cleaning and maintaining them. Normally, high end furniture needs deep cleaning. Fabric will stain, but with a leather upholstery, it is not only easier to clean but it’s a better option if you have young ones as it’s much easier to care for. You can use a special conditioner once or twice a year, and for other spills, just use a cloth and wipe immediately.

3. Professional Cleaning Services

When you bought the furniture, you may have been told that they offer professional cleaning services. Check your warranty as well. If you have a deep stain, you had better call them immediately. Sometimes, no matter what you do, you may find that you just can’t get rid of a stain. If they can’t get rid of it, they may be able to replace that part free of charge. With kids, you can have problems with spills and stains, so check the warranty and have some peace of mind.

4. Rotate The Cushions

Kids are going to jump and dive and do all kinds of things like Superman or Batman. They’re energetic beings, but that’s not good for your cushions. This can wear down your cushions, so make sure you rotate them frequently. This also helps to maintain the shape of cushions.

5. Use Couch Protectors

You can also use couch protectors until your kids get a little older. You can replace these whenever necessary, however, these can also be washed in your washer and then be put back again on your high end furniture.

6. Protecting The Wood

Don’t forget the wood. These kinds of furniture use expensive and quality wood and you certainly don’t want it damaged. The use of a wood protectant will help to protect it but since the wood part isn’t high traffic, you don’t have to use it that often.
