12 Best Camping Food Ideas & Delicious Outdoor Cuisine

Who doesn’t love camping? Alright, some people like it more than others, but everyone can be a happy camper when amazing food is involved.

Here are 12 of the best camping food ideas for your next adventure. Which one is your favourite?

1. Yogurt

Are you hungry for something that’s quick and easy to prepare when you wake up in the morning? If so, bring some yogurt, some granola, and the fresh fruits of your choice.

Cut your fruits into small pieces, unless you brought only berries, add them to your yogurt, and sprinkle some granola on top. This is a simple and delicious way to start a great day. It’s one of the best camping food ideas that doesn’t require a lot of preparation.

2. Omelets

If you want something a little more fancy, you could prepare omelets at your campsite, and eat them with toasted bread. You can cook your omelets in a pan with a camping oven, or over the fire.

You could also prepare omelets in a bag. What’s great about it is that you can prepare your omelets in advance: simply pour two eggs in a ziplock bag, with the ingredients of your choice. When you’re ready, simply boil a pot of water, place your bags into the water, and wait for your omelets to be ready.

3. Pancakes

Pancakes always make a great breakfast, and enjoying them while you’re camping is not that difficult. You can either bring your favourite pancake recipe with you, or try out something even more simple.

You can prepare your pancakes with a few spoonfuls of flour, a pinch of salt, and some water. Mix your ingredients until you have a creamy batter, coat a pan with some fat, and cook your first pancake.

4. Chili

For many people, camping isn’t camping without chili. All you need to make chili is some ground meat, a can of stewed tomatoes, one or two cans of beans, a chopped onion, some chili powder, and a bit of water.

Start by browning the meat, add the other ingredients, and let everyting simmer until it’s warm. This is one of the best camping food recipes that many people will love.

5. Sandwiches

Sandwiches are perfect for a picnic, and they are one of the best camping food ideas to bring on your trip. You can either prepare them in advance, or bring some bread and the ingredients of your choice to prepare them right before either them.

If you have a hobo pie maker, you can even prepare hot sandwiches by cooking them over a campfire.

6. Baked potatoes

If you like baking potatoes wrapped in aluminum foil in your oven at home, why not do the same around your campfire?

Poke a few holes in each of the potatoes, carefully wrap them in foil, and place them on hot coals, or right next to the fire. They should be well cooked in about half an hour, but it could take more time, depending on the size of your potatoes.

7. Grilled cheeses

There are many different ways to prepare a grilled cheese, but this one will work well if you are camping with a group. Buy a long loaf of bread, and cut it into slices, but not all the way through.

Slide some cheese slices into each slot of bread. You can add some other ingredients if you want to. Wrap the loaf with foil, and cook it in the fire for a few minutes, or over a grill.

8. Corn on the cob

Corn on the cob is the perfect meal when corn is in season. You can simply boil your fresh corn in a pot of boiling water, with some salt. When it’s ready, serve it with butter and salt.

It’s also possible to wrap your corn in foil, and to cook it in the fire or over a grill.

9. Hot dogs

Everyone loves hot dogs! Hot dogs make the best camping food, because all you need to prepare them over a campfire is a stick. You can of course eat them with hot dog buns.

Since hot dogs are made from processed meat, they will keep in your cooler without spoiling.

10. Pasta and sauce

Pasta and sauce are easy to prepare with just a pot of boiling water, and they are great to eat after a long day spent outdoors.

You can prepare mac and cheese, or simply bring a can of tomato juice or a jar of sauce to pour over your cooked pasta.

11. Pizza log

Does it sound like pizza would be complicated to prepare during a camping trip? Well, why not try a pizza log?

Buy some pizza dough, and add some pizza sauce with the cheese and the toppings of your choice. Roll the dough, and pinch the ends closed. Wrap your pizza dough in foil, and cook it on hot coals or over a grill. You can prepare it in advance while you’re still at home.

12. S’mores

We saved the best camping food for last. S’mores are the perfect camping dessert, and they’re also ideal when you only want a snack. All you need to prepare s’mores is some graham crackers, marshmallows, and of course, some chocolate.

Start by cooking a marshmallow on a stick over your campfire. When the marshmallow is toasted, make a sandwich with two graham crackers, and a square of chocolate. Easy, and delicious!
