6 Exciting Recipes You Can Cook With a Pizza Oven

A wood fired pizza oven cooks pretty amazing pizza. Those of you who have eaten pizzas made in different ways will probably admit that a pizza cooked in a wood fired oven tastes the best. Not only that, it is actually better for you.

With a firm, crispy outside along with its smoky flavour, it’s hard to beat a pizza cooked this way. However, these ovens can be used to cook other things as well. Let’s take a look at some of the other foods you can cook by using an outdoor pizza oven.

1. Vegetables

When you cook vegetables in pans, they will be a little oily and sometimes, a lot more oily. A wood fired oven can cook your vegetables and make it an unforgettable experience. They will taste better and have that unique smoky taste. By using a few pieces of wood burning to red coal, it’s a great way to prepare the oven to cook your veggies. Throw in some red peppers and watch its skin blacken. You can cook a medley of veggies on a tray at the bottom of the oven. Some other veggies that work well and have that smoky flavour include sweet potatoes, corncobs and caramelized onions.

2. Bread

Normally, bread is cooked in a normal kitchen oven but try cooking it in a wood fired oven and taste the difference. Many restaurants also use a wood fired oven to cook bread or burgers. To do this, you need to have the wood going for about a couple of hours before throwing in the bread, otherwise it could burn the bread.

3. Seafood

If you want to cook fish, make sure that the temperature is at 200 degrees, place whole pieces of fish over a wired rack to roast them. You can put some of your favourite spices on the fish. You can also place shellfish like mussels and prawns or even clams and roast it on a tray just as you would with veggies.

4. Yummy Desserts

Fire up that wood oven and make some of your favourite yummy desserts such as cheesecake, crème brulee (oh god) and baked custard. How ironic that you can make such gorgeous and heavenly desserts in something that is as hot as hell! For these desserts, you need to get the oven’s temperature around 150 degrees.

5. The Only Way To Make Stews

You can make excellent stews in a wood fired oven. In fact, when you try it, you’ll believe that this is the only way to make stews! You can make the oven burn slowly so that the vegetables and meat will become really tender and allow the juices flavour to really build up as it bubbles about.

6. Poultry

You must try to cook a turkey in a wood fired oven for your next Thanksgiving. In fact, you can also cook chicken that’s sure to get the pulses racing as guests watch and anticipate their meal. Choose smaller birds that are just under 4 pounds since they cook more evenly throughout the whole process.

There’s no doubt about it; cooking foods in a wood fired pizza oven, especially when you have a party or gathering, just tastes so much better. There’s something quite unique in the way food tastes and it just cannot be replicated. Oh, and in your excitement, don’t forget that you can also cook pizzas as well.
