Since I'll be away for five days very shortly, I've put off grocery shopping lest I let food go bad while I'm in Iceland. This, coupled with the fact that I was ravenous after the gym and only had an hour before play rehearsal, I decided to check out the new burger joint in town and treat myself to a good meal while looking over my lines.

Black Cow Burger Bar has only been open a few months, but via word of mouth I'd heard excellent things. While I will have to make a more detailed review later, I wanted to point out that I was very impressed with the restaurant as a whole when I stopped in last night. It is gorgeous and extremely clean. The decor is simple and modern, and they even kept an old candy counter out front (filled with delicious looking candy!) to pay homage to the candy store that used to be in the space. Friends have told me the bathrooms are the cleanest they've ever seen.
I started with a small salad. For only fifty cents more than the mixed greens salad I got a chopped apple salad instead. It was fantastic. Bright and flavorful and a great refuel after the gym.
For my burger, I got the "Field Tested" Hawaiian Turkey: a turkey burger piled with pineapple, swiss cheese, baby arugala, and spicy mustard. Oh. My. Goodness. This was fantastic. Turkey burgers are so hit or miss, and this one was perfect. I could have eaten the turkey burger on its own, that's how flavorful the meat itself was. But the pineapple and the rest just meshed perfectly and made for an excellent burger. I was a little sad it did not come with a side, but fries would have negated all the good work that I did at the gym, so it's probably for the best.
I was tempted to get one of the delicious desserts they offered that day, but again, I'm trying to stick to the whole "eating sort-of healthy" thing for a while, so I'm glad I was able to resist. The beer and wine selection looks great, I think I'll be back sometime soon to sip on a drink while running lines or maybe after a rehearsal sometime. I'm excited for this great food option just a short walk from my theater!
As I said, I'll have to do a more in-depth review later, and try one of their Angus beef burgers. They also have a veggie burger or salmon fillet for those who aren't fans of red meat. You can find all the information about the restaurant on their Facebook Page. If you're a Western Masser, it's worth the trip!
